 The Hardy Geranium Patricia, 'Geranium x Patricia', displays vivid cyclamen red blooms. It makes a large specimen, up to 30 in tall, with huge leaves, and large petunia-sized flowers. During the summer it produces eye-catching magenta flowers with star-shaped, dark-colored centers. It can be used as a weed-smothering ground cover if there is no shrub bracing it upward. It likes moist acidic humousy soil but will do pretty well with slightly drier conditions and poorer soil. It likes quite a bit of sun but will still bloom in partial shade. But it is not heat-hardy and dislikes humid summers, so not very useful above Zone 8. Hardy Geraniums continue to gain popularity among gardeners who are looking for low-maintenance plants.
