The Crocus 'Yellow', 'Crocus flavus', a fall planted bulb, is a classic golden-yellow variety that sparkles in the spring sunshine before anything else has begun to grow. They are excellent for naturalizing. Plant them in large groups near the front door or at the base of trees. Crocus is easy to grow, and it is native to the hilly meadows and woodlands of Greece, Turkey and the Balkans. Yellow Crocus blooms in early spring and has a 3 week bloom period.Crocuses perform best in a sandy, well-drained soil. Crocus bulbs remaining in the ground will always bloom a bit earlier than the ones planted the previous year. For a massive effect, plant in great sweeps of 100 to 150 bulbs. Use them in rock gardens, ground covers, containers, mass plantings and borders.
