Why would you even consider hand garden tools with the huge range of garden power tools that are available now? Call me old-fashioned, but there is something very deeply satisfying about cultivating using a hand garden tool that using a rotary hoe just doesn't provide. And yes, whilst garden power tools will save on your blood, sweat and tears, and they are a godsend when you only have a weekend to complete a backyard makeover, but to me, gardening is not just about finishing a landscaping project, it is a labor of love and most avid gardeners will tell you that a garden is NEVER really 'finished', it's an ongoing creative project that provides hours of pleasure that comes from tilling the earth, planting out little pockets of potential and watching it grow. You are much less likely to leave a gapping hole in the hedge when you slip with hand hedge shears than you are with an electric hedge trimmer. Besides, it's great exercise and in a society where obesity is on the rise, we all need more than we are getting now.
